Acceptable-Use Policy
This policy explains what you may not do with LonelyTavern ("the App"). It is part of, and incorporated into, our Terms of Service. The App is for adults (18+). Breaking this policy may cost you your license to use the App, and illegal content or conduct may be reported to the authorities.
Strictly prohibited — zero tolerance
You must never use the App to create, generate, request, store, or share:
- Any sexual content involving minors, or any character depicted, described, or implied to be under 18, regardless of any claim that the character is older. This is illegal, and we have zero tolerance for it.
- Sexual or intimate content depicting real, identifiable people without their consent, including AI-generated ("deepfake") imagery.
- Content that sexually exploits or promotes the abuse of any real person.
- Content that is otherwise illegal, or that facilitates serious harm to others — for example, terrorism, credible threats or incitement of violence, or instructions for weapons or serious crimes.
Also prohibited
You must not use the App to:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, defame, or dox (deliberately expose private information about) any real person.
- Infringe anyone's intellectual property, or import or generate content you do not have the rights to use.
- Disable, bypass, or circumvent the App's built-in safety instruction or its age confirmation.
- Use the App if you are under 18, or where your use would break the law that applies to you.
- Violate the terms or usage policies of the third-party AI provider you connect — their rules also apply to what you generate.
What the App does to help
- Every AI request includes a built-in safety instruction asking your AI provider to refuse sexual content involving minors and sexual content depicting real, identifiable people — the non-negotiable bright lines. It is always on, cannot be turned off, and is deliberately narrow so it does not interfere with lawful adult roleplay. (Because you choose your own provider, we cannot guarantee the provider honors it — but the instruction is always sent.)
- The App is rated 18+ and requires you to confirm you are an adult.
- Imported, created, and edited character cards — and imported lorebooks — pass a basic on-device screen for indicators of minor-coded characters: unambiguous cases are blocked outright, and ambiguous ones require you to explicitly confirm that every character is an adult (18+). This is a good-faith heuristic across the App's supported languages — not a guarantee, and not content moderation.
The other prohibitions in this policy are yours to follow. We enforce them not through the built-in instruction but by terminating your license and, where illegal content or conduct is involved, reporting to the authorities.
Your responsibility
You alone are responsible for how you use the App — the providers and keys you connect, the content you import or create (characters, lorebooks, and the like), and everything you generate. The App is a local tool; the choices are yours.
Reporting
If you come across illegal content — for example, a character-card file you obtained from a third-party source and imported into the App — report it to [email protected]. We will escalate reports of illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, to the appropriate authorities (such as the NCMEC), and may preserve and share related information as permitted or required by law.
The App also has a built-in report action: long-press any AI-generated message and choose Report content to send us an email with an excerpt of the message and its context. We review every report and use them to improve the App's built-in safeguards and defaults. Because all content lives only on your device, there is no server-side moderation — and you can delete any message or imported character in the App at any time.
What we can and can't do
LonelyTavern is a local, bring-your-own-key tool. We do not host, distribute, or recommend characters, lorebooks, or any other content, and we cannot see or monitor your private use of the App. There is no in-app store or catalog; everything in the App is content you create or import from your own device. We therefore cannot remove content from your device or anyone else's. What we can do: terminate your license to use the App, and report illegal content or conduct to the authorities.
Changes
We may update this policy; the effective date above will change.
