LonelyTavern

Privacy Policy

Effective August 26, 2026 · Last updated August 26, 2026

The short version

LonelyTavern is a local-first app. We run no servers, you have no account, and we do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal information. Almost everything stays on your device. The one time data leaves your device is when you use an AI feature — then it goes directly to the third-party AI provider you connected, under that provider's policies, not ours.

Who we are

LonelyTavern is operated by LonelyTavern LLC ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [email protected].

What we collect

Through any server we operate: nothing — we don't run one.

On your device, the app stores (and only the app on your device can read):

We have no access to any of the above. It never reaches us.

Data you send to third-party AI providers

When you use an AI feature, the app sends your messages and character details directly from your device to the third-party AI provider you configure (for example OpenRouter, OpenAI, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you choose). That provider processes your data under its own privacy policy and terms — we are not a party to that exchange and have no control over it. Review your chosen provider's policies and choose accordingly.

Backups

If you create a backup, it is stored wherever you choose (your own device or cloud). We never receive it.

Analytics & tracking

None. The app includes no analytics, advertising, third-party trackers, telemetry, or crash reporting. The only network connection it makes is the one you initiate — sending your messages to your chosen AI provider.

Children

LonelyTavern is for adults (18+). It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 (we collect no personal information at all).

Your choices and rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is little for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. You control all on-device data directly: delete characters/chats in the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything. If you have questions (including under the CCPA/CPRA or GDPR), contact us at [email protected].

California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not collect, sell, or "share" (as those terms are used in the CCPA/CPRA) the personal information of California residents, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information — because we operate no servers and collect no personal information. California residents have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information a business holds about them, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights; because we hold no such information, there is nothing for us to disclose, delete, or correct. If you believe we hold information about you, contact us at [email protected].

Users in the EU / UK (GDPR)

To the extent the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we do not collect or process your personal data through any server, because your content stays on your device. When you use an AI feature, you send data directly to the third-party AI provider you chose; that provider acts as an independent controller or processor for that data under its own terms. Review your provider's GDPR disclosures before use.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be reflected in the app.
